Not Smelling Like a Rose

The smelliest flowers and animals in the world

Many will remember the Disney cartoon “Bambi” in it Bambi the deer meets up with a skunk. Bambi is trying to learn what everything around him is called. He learns that the colorful blooms he sees are flowers and when a skunk emerges from the flowers he looks at it and says “Flower.” Unfortunately, it was not a flower; if it had been, it would have been a very smelly flower, but the skunk accepts being called Flower. So remembering that from my childhood I decided to write about the smelliest flowers and the smelliest animals in the world in one article.

Five Species of Baboons

There are five different species of baboons and they all live in Arabia or Africa. Some baboons are the world’s largest moneys. They prefer savanna and semi-arid habitats. There are a few baboons that live in tropical forests.

Baboons are adept at climbing trees in which they eat and sleep. Much of their time is spent on the ground. They love to eat crops so the African farmers are not their friends, They enjoy fruits, grasses, seeds, roots, and bark. When they have an appetite for meat they eat rodents, birds, and some larger mammals such as sheep and antelope.

Leaping Lizards

Some of the most amazing lizards in the world

Just like sunbathers on beaches all over the world lizards love to lie in the sun all day. At night they hide near rocks and other vegetation. They are reptiles with characteristic traits of snakes forked tongues and scales. Lizards have claws to help them climb, dig, and defend themselves. Often their tails are longer than their bodies and they use them to balance, climb, and for protection. There are 4,675 species of lizards and they can live up to 50 years.
